Story
In 2015 my friends son Austin was diagnosed with a rare muscle wasting disease called Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. I had never heard of this illness until I met his mum Maxine and its absolutely horrid. Here are some of the facts:
- Duchenne is 100% fatal
- Most kids with it die in their late teens or early twenties
- Most are in a wheelchair by the age of 12
- It leads to respiratory failure and other debilitating orthopaedic complications
I met Austin for the first time at one of Max's fundraising events and he really hit it off with my son Harley. Being a Father to 3 boys I just couldn't begin to imagine what it must be like living with Duchenne, watching my son grow weaker and weaker.
The charity I choose to run for is Harrison's Fund and their mission is to get as much money into the hands of the worlds best researchers who are working tirelessly to find a cure for Duchenne. I want to help make a difference so that Austin and all others suffering from the disease can grow into the strong men they are meant to be.
As many of you know I have a passion for running and this year I am embarking on an epic challenge...... 3 MARATHONS IN FIVE WEEKS!!!! The challenge kick starts on 12th September in Brighton, followed soon after by the infamous London Marathon on October 3rd and finally the Manchester Marathon on October 10th.
