Story
Thank you for visiting my page
On 17 November 2016 my cousin Alfie and his family's lives were turned upside down. He had been suffering with headaches and was referred to Moorfield Eye hospital where he was diagnosed as having a brain tumour.
Alfie was 13 at the time and has endured a process over the last 18 months which no one should have to go through let alone a child. It is one of the toughest journeys you can make but with the support of his family, friends, and charities like Starlight Alfie never lost his smile.
I didn't know much about brain tumours before this happened, but to give you some perspective since his diagnosis he has had the following treatments:
- 2 major operations
- 30 sessions (6 weeks of radiotherapy)
- 8 cycles of chemo (each cycle lasting 6 weeks)
- 30 full blood transfusions
Having been inspired by Alfie and his determination to beat the illness I have decided to run the London Marathon in April proudly for Starlight.
I am not anticipating doing this again as I can confirm it is every bit as tough as you think (!!!) .... so I am going to do it properly this time and want to raise as much money as I can.
“Starlight Children’s Foundation is a national children’s charity that is dedicated to brightening the lives of children and
teenagers suffering from a serious or terminal illness.
We have been working for over 30 years to support sick children and their families because we know the difference happiness and laughter can make during times when it feels like there’s not much to look forward to.
We do this through our extensive hospital entertainment and wish granting programmes. These programmes are based on positive psychology and offer distraction at a time when young people and families are at their most vulnerable. Every year we help over half a million children to look beyond their illnesses and show them
the possibilities of life.”
Please donate and enable Starlight to continue their hard work in supporting children like Alfie.
