Story
Important Update - I am delighted to share that I won’t be doing this alone. It’s credit to Dad and how special he was to so many that we now have a team of 5 runners for the Great North Run 2020. I am joined by my brother, Richard, nephew Logan, cousin Nicola and her husband James. We are TEAM BARRY!
In September 2019, Dad was admitted to hospital following his serious struggles with COPD and lung cancer. After 10 days in hospital he sadly lost his fight and passed away. We remain devastated by this loss!
Dad lived a truly marvellous life. He was very happily married for 46 years. He had a wonderful family and absolutely adored his grandchildren who adore him equally. However, for 16 years his battle with COPD became tougher and tougher. The things he did that we all took for granted became tasks he simply couldn’t do any more. He never got over not being able to play golf nor continue his brilliant DIY skills at home and for the rest of us too.
I will be running a distance that right now seems ridiculously too far for me but I will be running for Dad so there’s no way I won’t be finishing the Great North Run. In Dad’s memory I hope that my fundraising can go some way to helping others and helping those people who can hopefully end lung disease for everyone.
