About the Police Unity Tour (UK)
The Police Unity tour has its origins in the United States. In May 1997 the Police Unity Tour was organized, by Officer Patrick P. Montuore of the Florham Park Police Department, with the hope of bringing public awareness of Police Officers who have died in the line of duty and to honour their sacrifices. What started with 18 riders on a four day fund-raising bicycle ride from Florham Park, NJ to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C. Has grown into 8 Chapters consisting of nearly 1700 members.
The first UK tour took place in 2013. The 2017 UK Police Unity Tour (UKPUT) takes place in July 2017. Starting at the National Police Memorial in London, we will make the journey over 3 days across six counties to the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire.
The National Police Memorial at the corner of The Mall and Horse Guards in London is the starting point for the UK Police Unity Tour. The memorial contains an inscribed roll of honour with the names of approximately 1600 officers killed whilst on duty.
We ride in memory of fallen officers.
A key aim of the Police Unity Tour is to raise awareness of police officer fatalities and the ultimate price police officers sometimes pay in the protection of communities up and down the country. This is achieved through visibility of the ride, sponsorship and donations.
Care of Police Survivors (otherwise known as COPS) is a UK registered charity dedicated to helping the families of police officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty, rebuild their lives. It aims to ensure that survivors have all the help they need to cope with such a tragedy, and that they remain part of the police family.
