Story

As Sports Editor of the Lancashire Telegraph newspaper, I've reported on hundreds of incredible sporting achievements, and met some dedicated, focused and inspirational sportsmen and women along the way.

Now it's my turn to give something back.

On July 11th, I'll be running in the Jane Tomlinson Lancashire Pennine 10k in Blackburn.

It may not rank up there with Usain Bolt winning the 100m or Wayne Rooney lifting the World Cup for England, but for me, and the challenge it presents, it's just as significant.

I'll be raising money for the incredible East Lancashire Hospice.

Over the past two years, I've seen the work the Hospice has done first-hand, and also the dedication of the staff and the many volunteers. They face the momentous task of raising more than £2 million a year, so every penny donated really does count ... and make a difference.

Since my training began, almost two months ago, I've been writing a blog for the Lancashire Telegraph website.

It's the story of a 'fortysomething' dad building up for the big race, with the temptations of beer and curry trying to outweigh the benefits of a three-mile run.

Give them  a read at by clicking on http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/news/campaigns/pennine_lancashire_10k_run/

And if you like them, and want to help the Hospice, please donate a couple of pounds.

If you don't like the blogs, please donate anyway ... there are people out there who really need your help.
