We help blind and partially sighted people to break down the barriers of sight loss

Story

My story Started October 2009 when I finally kicked the smoking habit and replaced it with another habit, distance running, which is now an obsession! Why am I doing the Hardmoors Ultra Marathon? I was searching for an event to take part in this year to give me some focus and purpose and I came across the Hardmoors Ultra Marathon taking in the Cleveland Way. Starting at the market town of Helmsley finishing in my home town of Filey. The event is 110 miles with a time limit of 36 hours.

Why have I chosen the RNIB. In 2005 my father started to lose his sight, this was the year my daughter was born so he did get to see his grand daughter, but unfortunately as he has now lost his sight fully he is unable to see how she has changed. My fathers and mothers life were turned upside down with the loss of his sight. A simple thing we take for granted, like picking your favourite cd and listening to it. He would have to go through piles of cds to reach the one he wanted. My brother and I bought my father a special pen from the RNIB. This was a pen that reads labels. We stuck labels to his cds and the pen tells him what the cd is. He was over the moon! The money you give will be put to good use by the RNIB for helping blind and partially sighted people.

RNIB - helping blind and partially sighted people. Every day another 100 people will start to lose their sight.

RNIB is the leading UK charity offering practical support and information to anyone with a sight problem. Their pioneering work helps - not just with braille, talking books and computer training but with imaginative and practical solutions to everyday challenges. Your support helps them rebuild lives devastated by sight loss.
