Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
For those who do not know me or cannot quite remember who I am, here is a quick over view of how I got here!
I have been a keen cyclist for many years now and have been a member of a few cycling clubs, mainly for the social aspect not the competition element. Cycling alone is not nearly as much fun as it is when cycling as a group!
Last year my family and I moved from Yorkshire to Ayrshire in Scotland, new jobs and a life by the seaside.
My best friend called me up early last year to see if I fancied a cycling trip in France. This was prompted by a friend of his who wanted to do something "different" to remember his father who died of a stroke.
So the idea of cycling France top to bottom took shape. Bearing in mind my best friend has not ridden a bike since he was a kid, he was now proposing digging out some stabilisers and getting ready for a long tour. Now I lived in Yorkshire for 35 years and he has not been interested in cycling one bit, as soon as I leave the country he decides to take an interest. All these years we could have been cycling buddies, Lance and Ullrich, Shleck brothers etc.
So on the 19th July 2011, 3 grown men are going to cycling unsupported from Brittany to Barcelona in 12 days. We are looking at around 1500km, which is over 100km per day if we want to catch our flight back home! Plus the challenge of some hills called the Pyrenees that are stuck in our way. None of us have cycled that far for that length of time, infact the longest ride I have taken part in was only 90 miles and it took the rest of the week to recover.
This is not just a fun ride, we are seeking to raise as much money as we can for our chosen charities. I am riding for Ayrshire Cancer Support. Ayrshire Cancer Support has operated in Ayrshire since 1982 providing emotional support and practical help for cancer patients and their families, their aim is to ensure that help is readily available for everyone who needs it. They are an Ayrshire charity and all money raised is used in Ayrshire.
So please dig deep and donate what you can - as Tesco says "Every little helps". Thanks for taking the time to read this.
PS. All funds donated will go to my charity, all costs for the trip are being covered by myself
