Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.  Three years ago i watched a documenatary about a crazy race where people were running through the Sahara Desert! I was training for the Edinburgh Marathon at the time so was feeling pretty fit and inspired, so i thought to myself that this is a challege for me! I got myself on the Waitlist for the 2011 race, i finally got my official place a few weeks ago, which was greeted with a strange cocktail of emotion, iincluding excitement and fear!

So im now contemplating my biggest challenge to date, the Marathon Des Sables is dubbed the toughest foot race on earth, the race is a 240km epic journey by foot through the Saharan desert.  This is completed over six stages, where the combination of searing heat, rationed water supplies and self sufficiency, open desert sandy trails, dried lakebeds and stony tracks will test me physically and mentally!

When i first got my Waitlist place i said to my Father In-Law Colin that i would run/walk/hobble the Marathon Des Sables for Bowel Cancer UK, this was due to the fact that Colin had previously suffered Bowel Cancer twice in his life!

A few months after this conversation with Colin he discovered that his Bowel Cancer had returned for the third time! The last two and a half years have been extremely tough for Colin and the family, Colin has had numerous treatments and operations.

Through all this Colin has remained positive and extemely brave, i hope that i can be as brave and positive in the Sahara next year!

Thankyou for visiting my page!
