LEATHER MAN TO LYCRA MAN!
Well, I did it and thank you all for your most valuable support! The Rainy Day Trust I know, are very appreciative of this.
Yes, Sunday June 16th saw me pitching up at London's Clapham Common ready for the big 'off' heading for Brighton's seafront on Madeira Drive. Me and 28,500 of my closest friends although, not all at once you understand.
With staggered time departures, I had an early one at 6.30am which, suited me fine. Much later than that then the roads get extremely congested.
With dayglo Lycra everywhere - that included me - the weather was just perfect although, rain was forecast for a little later in the day. It was overcast at about 17 degrees which, was just right.
I was riding in a group and we were trying to stick together but, it's pretty difficult with those kind of numbers involved. We inevitably split up which enabled me to power on to the finish line 54 miles away.
It was gently raining on my arrival in Brighton but still, the crowds were out in force welcoming you in in a truly festival / carnival atmosphere.
So, I collected my finishing medal and had the warm glow in knowing that we've raised a fair amount of dosh for the Rainy Day Trust too!
