Story
So I started road running in August 20 to relieve the lockdown boredom and to lose a few pounds...I was inspired to do so by my partner's son Nick who has run the London Marathon and the Great North Run (amongst others). I watched him at the 2019 GNR and was overwhelmed by the event, the emotion and the overall positive kind and gentle nature of the runners and their supporters/families. Fast forward to October 2020 and I'm starting to feel confident about completing the half marathon...so I started planning to join Nick at the 2021 run.
Then, from nowhere, Nick discovered a men's health 'issue'... one that he needed to act on quickly (right in the middle of this bloody frightening pandemic by the way!). Nick, thankfully, completed his treatment in the first week of 2021 and we are confident of a full recovery...Covid allowing of course.
This got me thinking...can I run for a charity that will support finding a cure and/or will support those struck down with male specific cancers..hence me contacting Orchid - Fighting Male Cancer, who have agreed to running on their behalf.
Clearly I need to maximise the fundraising effort for them to make it worthwhile...and many family and friends said they'd help even before i signed up...so this page is set up for you to donate donate donate.
Remember, no sum is too small, and one day this could help someone very dear and very near to you.
Thanks for listening and i'll post regular updates and, more importantly, confirmation that the run will go ahead as and when we have started to get through the pandemic (although there will no doubt be an opportunity for runners to run the distance local to them on the day, as there was in 2020).
Stay safe and be kind
Paul x
P.s. Running is great - I have run 50+ 10ks and 3 x half marathon distances since I started and I've lost well over 2 stone!
UPDATE: 4 days to go and over a 100 10ks later...oh and btw, my partner is now my fiance 😍
