The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) rescues hundreds of severely injured or ill patients every year throughout the North East, North Yorkshire and Cumbria. Their doctor-led critical care teams deliver life-saving treatments at the scene of the incident whether that is on a fell top, a roadside or in a city centre. The charity responded to 1,640 call outs last year* alone, via their helicopter and emergency response vehicles, where they performed treatments and procedures which can mean the difference between life or death.

A group of us who work within the James Cook A&E major trauma centre have decided to team together to complete the “Race To the Base” challenge, as we know first hand the amazing work these guys do on a daily basis.  So..... this March, we will either run, walk or cycle the distance the critical care team fly when returning to the base from the RVI in Newcastle, the North's main major trauma centre.   The distance each one of use will cover will range from 32/46 or 130 miles!!!

We will keep everyone posted with images and stories along the way! So here’s to raising a lot of money for a worth while cause!!!
