Thank you for taking time to visit my page.
This year I am playing in Team ‘Dave Kilbride’ for Darren Clark.
Here are Darren’s words about Dave.
Having only met Dave 14 yrs ago, he was so pleased that I found him and the fact that his son shared his love for football. However not so when I told him I supported Chelsea, with him being "A Gunner" didn't go down to well.
Several meetings with Dave and lots of memory's, it didn't help that he had ALZHEIMERS. He was pleased when I told him he had 3 granddaughters, Danielle, Isobel and Charlotte. This made life worth living and he said he was like a new man.
Several years past and he met my stepmum Julie, they got married and our family grew again, I can honestly say he was definitely a family man and enjoyed our visits to Southampton where he lived with Julie.
Dave was originally a butcher from Wycombe by trade and then went on to serve our country before settling in Southampton. It was late February 2013 when I had a call from Julie and my world was to turn upside down. Dave had gone in for checkups after a throat infection when the doctor found that he had CANCER. We were told it could be treated, but once he went in I think he knew he wasn't coming out.
The cancer got worse and Dave slowly deteriorated, we spent the last few weeks reminiscing about our short time together, all the days in the Navy and me telling him and his bedmates all about FFC and what they do, incliuding and the support this close network of friends have for each other. He beamed with pride that his son and friends were doing their bit to fight this disease that had beaten him. I spent the last few hrs with my 'Dad' and I know a year on he will absolutely proud of what FFCs about.
