Story
After the chaotic withdrawal of western forces in August,
Afghanistan’s economy has collapsed. Families have been left without work or
homes, and facing starvation.
“We are on a countdown to catastrophe and if we don’t act
now, we will have a total disaster on our hands”, according to the
head of the UN’s World Food Programme. Over 14 million Afghan children are
expected to face crisis during a bitter winter, as temperatures drop to as low
as -7°c. So I’ve joined up with Save the Children to launch an appeal this
Christmas to support some of the most vulnerable families.
Save the Children are working with partners on the ground in
all ten Afghan provinces to deliver mobile health units supporting children
with acute malnutrition. They are also working to deliver supplies to those who
have had to leave everything behind, and to set up safe spaces for children to
play, learn, and recover.
While the UK Government cuts aid spending we can still make
a difference to those suffering from unimaginable hardship.
Please give as generously as you can.
