Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

*Fun fact: On average, a person in the UK consumes 118 pints of beer per year! At £3.9** (average price of a pint in London) that’s £460… So, this year, why not sacrifice a couple pints towards making this world a better place?

On 29th of May, we are going to run the London Vitality 10K race for Alzheimer's society. Not only do they provide advice, care and support for people affected by dementia, but are also the only UK charity to conduct extensive research into dementia care, cause, cure and prevention.

Their campaigns are aimed at raising awareness and "pushing for a more dementia-friendly society so people with the condition can live without fear and prejudice". Your donation, however large or small, will improve lives and contribute towards turning the vision of a dementia-free world into reality.

Why Dementia?

Dementia is “a chronic or persistent disorder of the mental processes caused by brain disease or injury and marked by memory disorders, personality changes, and impaired reasoning”***.

The most common cause of dementia is Alzheimer’s disease but there are others, too.

This brilliant video by Alzheimer’s Society explains:

https://youtu.be/fmaEql66gB0?list=PL6Qsh0P6vDZKyjAyUYidyPk2lLBZCD1ul

There are 850, 000 people with dementia in the UK. This will increase to 2 million by 2051.

Dementia is one of the main causes of disability later in life (ahead of cancer, cardiovascular disease and stroke) and yet it is severely underfunded! For every person living with dementia, the annual cost to the UK economy is more than £30, 000, whilst only £90 is spent on research every year.****

We decided it was time to take part: running 10K is a personal challenge for us and, hopefully, a source of motivation for you.

Help us make a real difference. Today!
