Since early adulthood, Paul would go out of his way to help the homeless. So much so that he on a night out with friends and relatives, he would occasionly stop his car so he could donate the cost of something to eat and drink to someone in need. 

Without a doubt, he would have wished to make his last gesture to be for the same cause.
