Story
HWURFC is working with Deaf Action Youth Service to raise funds for a residential week for young Deaf people 10-18 years. The week focuses on encouraging bonds together and forging deaf friendships whilst building their confidence and learning new skills in the outdoors. The camp is based in Fife at a place called “Scouts Fordell Firs”, and will begin in the first week of July. It would be the first time the group would have a chance to get away together overnight to learn skills like First Aid Training and forest craft. For some young people with social communication issues, going away from home will be quite a daunting experience. The camp offers activities and workshops in their school summer holidays and gives them the chance to spend time with other deaf kids from the East of Scotland and most importantly having fun.
The university rugby club are looking to increase the awareness of Deaf Action and raise money for the young people by taking part in a "sponsored silence". During this time, the individual will not be able to speak for 24 hours as they encounter the difficulties of daily life. This is deemed to be an incredibly hard mental challenge for everyone taking part so please give generously.
