Story
In times of uncertainty, one thing remains true: we can't survive without clean water, fresh air, and the therapy of the outdoors. As the coronavirus has affected cities, we have seen more and more people seeking space outdoors highlighting the need to protect and restore our environment.
On April 25th, when the Great Race for Saving Water would normally take place, I'll be running the Hamby Trail outside of Groveland. This 4 mile round-trip run will take me from the Rim of the Tuolumne canyon nearly 2,000 feet downhill to the confluence of the Tuolumne and Clavey Rivers. Of course, its nearly 2,000 feet back up! What a special place!
I'm privileged to work for an organization at the forefront of protecting one of our most vital natural resources. Tuolumne River Trust has been the voice for the Tuolumne River for almost 40 years, and we have no plans on stopping anytime soon.
What do we do at TRT? Here's a snapshot of what we do every single day. In fact, these are all things that YOU are doing when you choose to make a donation to health of the river, our communities, and our future.
You are:
- restoring burned forests in the upper watershed by planting trees, rehabilitating meadows, and revitalize trails
- protecting communities by restoring floodplains along the lower river. Restoring floodplains doesn't just benefit people, it provides habitat for keystone species like salmon and helps recharge our aquifers
- advocating for policies that will shape the future of California water policy and management. The actions we take now will affect the generations that are to come
- providing communities with tools to stay engaged in public decision-making that affect their access to clean drinking water, parks, and safe places to recreate outdoors
- educating kids, families, and people like you about where their water comes from and what they can do to reduce their use
How do we manage to do all this with a staff of 9? With help from supporters like you who believe in us! Like anything, it takes time and resources to protect and restore the Tuolumne. And amid such uncertain times, we need your support now more than ever.
Thank you for making a donation to my virtual fund-racing page!
