We support people affected by Addison's to improve their quality of life

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In 2016 my wife, Ríoghnach was admitted to hospital suffering from what we didn’t know the time was an adrenal crisis which proved to be near fatal.

It was after this that she was diagnosed with Addison’s Diease (hypoadrenalism or adrenal insufficiency) which is a rare, potentially fatal condition where the adrenal glands cease to function. People with Addison’s disease require life-long, daily treatment with replacement steroid hormones.

As well as now having Addison’s Disease Ríoghnach has other pre existing autoimmune conditions which put a great stress on her body, making her at times incredibly unwell. Due to the fact that Adisson’s Disease is a rare disease with just 9,000 sufferers in UK and Ireland it has at times been a real struggle to get the medical support she has desperately needed.

The Addison’s Disease Self-Help Group has been a great source of information and support for Ríoghnach in helping her deal with and better understand the Disease.

For that reason I along with my sister in law, Aisling are going to run the London Landmark’s Half Marathon on 24th March to raise awareness and money for this great charity.

I would be extremely grateful for any donation you could make big or small!

Thanks, Patrick.
