Story
We all die. It is a fact of life we cannot last, we must merely embrace the life given us to its fullest. For some that potential is never realised, the aspirations of who they were and who they were yet to be, wrapped in the memories and hopes of those who loved them. Those who are taken too soon are by us felt most harshest in their loss and they like the chaos theory butterfly whose flutterings mime the gentlest breeze at source, can resound and grow to the strength of a hurricane in the actions they inspire in those left behind.
Too many diseases deny us our full span of life. For us in Adlib's production of the Three Musketeers, it was Don Mitchell. His Planchet was show stealing performance stuff, and the man himself both a gent and an inspiration.
Cutting hair is such a trivial thing, it does not require bravery or any great physical challenge on my part. The worst I will feel is a little cold and perhaps a bit uncomfortable in public showing a bald head.
I grew my hair to the length it is because I wanted to emulate the swash-buckling hero. Being a pirate at Blackgang, Lysander in Midsummer Night's Dream, Prince Rupert in Sleeping Beauty, D'Artagnan in the Musketeers and so on - Acting, as Claire (my wife) will tell you is an important part of my life, therefore it only seems fitting that in chopping my hair off (and saying goodbye to the swashbuckling hero parts) I do so in tribute to another actor - Don. A man whose life, cut short by Parkinson's as it was, was defined by so much more.
And now as I continue this fund raising I appreciate just how many other people have been affected by this desease and it is more than I imagined.
I want to raise lots for Parkinson's - but not too much!!! I need a ceiling, a point beyond which I know no more will be raised... so if I raise the requisite amount and that is doubled I will wax my chest... if that is doubled I will wax my legs... and if that is doubled? well there is only so much more that can be done, isn't there? gulp...
So I want to raise £125 but no more as I don't want to be waxing anything!!!
If I raise £250 I wax the chest
If £500 the legs get waxed...
£1000? Not going to happen!!!
