Story
As I’m sure you will know if you are reading this page, Dad sadly passed away after a short period of illness on the 27th February, aged 86. Dad always said that he only wanted to leave his home was feet first and never lose his independence. So while his passing is hard for all of us; he lived a full life and his last years he retained his independence, which was very important to him.
There is no question in any of our minds that the loss off Mum in 2008 to cancer and then Tricia in November, 2021 to cancer again made life challenging. I don’t think any of us should know what it is like to lose a child, regardless of age, it is always too soon and cruel.
We decided to ask people to consider donating to the ‘Just Giving’ page we set up for Tricia. Of all the things Dad went through in his life, the loss of Tricia was probably one of the most impacting.
If Dads legacy is to help stop another parent experiencing that loss, then it would be the something that he and all of us would really appreciate.
About the ICVI
ICVI celebrated its 20th birthday in 2020. That's twenty years of ground breaking research into immunotherapy as a treatment for cancer. Our unique charity's work over the last twenty years has been devoted to supporting Professor Angus Dalgleish's pioneering research into this previously unknown field. In 2000 the idea that our immune system could be harnessed to fight cancer was dismissed by the wider cancer funding community. In response, a group of Professor Dalgleish's grateful patients set up a charity to fund a research team at St Georges University of London. Since then we have raised over £8 million and our vision of immunotherapy as a mainstream treatment for cancer has become a reality. Many mainstream charities are funding various immunotherapy projects including ours. ICVI has achieved a huge amount in the last twenty years. Professor Dalgleish and his research team have helped patients with many types of cancer, including melanoma, head and neck, pancreatic, breast,
