Fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Why have I decided to climb the highest mountain of the British Isles and raise money for Macmillan Cancer Charity this way?
Unfortunately I have a personal story that inspired me.
In April, after 6 months of fierce battle, silent (but brave!) suffering and pain, my father passed away from the horrible disease that is the leading cause of death worldwide: cancer.
We have been at his side to help him deal with his condition, to make him feel he is not alone, but due to the lack of cancer support systems in Hungary and the poor state of healthcare, we all were left feeling isolated, terrified and helpless. Nobody deserves to feel like that.
I totally admire Macmillan's work, because the help they provide to people with cancer and their carers is invaluable in times when professional, dedicated and genuine advice or even just a few sympathetic words can mean the world.
Unfortunately, at this point in time, we cannot change the fact that cancer kills one in three people. But each and every one of us can help to make the lives of those affected more tolerable by supporting a charity that makes it their mission to improve cancer care.
What do they do exactly, where does your money go?
- they operate support phone lines and face to face centres
- they fund over 3500 expert nurses UK wide
- they give benefits advice
- they provide up-to-date cancer information for patients, their families and carers
All of this cost a lot of money and so Macmillan run a series of fundraising events, like the hike to the Ben Nevis which I would like to participate in. To help them help us, and to commemorate my dad by doing something he loved: hiking in the mountains.
BUT, I cannot do it unless I raise at least 575 pounds... they don't make it easy do they?
It is an ambitious plan, but, as they say, little streams make great rivers.
Help me make a great river by making a donation.
