Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my page.
I am planning to do a twlight Abseil of Belfast Castle on 4th November 2021 to raise funds for Autism NI. This charity has provided me with so much support and guidance over these past 12 months.
Anyone that knows me will know little Méabh’s story. Méabh aka Moo is the youngest of my 3 children.
Meabh has ASD and severe communication delays. Méabh is non verbal and currently we our trying different communication styles to see what works best for her. For example AAC system, Now and then picture boards & makaton (Hoping one will work).
Stephen and I had concerns regarding Méabh, However when our concerns were confirmed on 11th December 2020. All I could do was cry.
As a mummy my mind went into overdrive all I could think about was would my baby girl be OK? Will she ever make friends and play with her sister and brother? Will she ever call mummy or daddy? My fears were endless. I had so many questions and felt it was my job as a mummy to do the very best by her.
This is where Austim NI entered my life. I am a member of many forums, which offer advice and support to parents and careers looking after those with ASD. This has been my lifeline. I will be the frist to admit I have no idea what I'm doing, if its right or wrong. But the support and advice I receive from those in similar situations really helps me understand this journey a little better. I have attended numerous courses and am constantly learning.
Autism NI has opened my eyes and made me realise I need to enjoy my baby and her gains. I need to embrace and praise her rewards. I have to help her shine in her own unqiue and individual way and just simply enjoy her little journey.
So please any donations to this amazing charity would be greatly appreciated.
Love Trish & family xx
