The centre that Twig is raising funds for is called NYUMBA YA MASAMBIRO (literally, House of Learning), with the mission statement:

“To provide resources and educational materials to both children and adults in Ruarwe and its surrounding communities, and to create an environment that focuses on long-term sustainable community development.”

Twig’s involvement:

Even though (with lots of hard work!) the centre has now been built, there is still lots to be done. It needs to be equipped with the right facilities to carry out classes and workshops. One of the main priorities is to provide IT equipment where the community can learn basic skills and use the computers as a resource for learning.

With no mains electricity presently running to the site this is certainly a challenge!

Twig agreed to do a sponsored charity event to buy and install enough solar panels to power a couple of laptops, but not only this – Twig would provide their extensive library of hundreds of films for the community to watch and engage with!
