Story
Many thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page in honour of our much loved Mum, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, Pat Willans (Patricia Saunders).
As well as being a mother of 5 children, Mum accomplished many things during her lifetime, one of them being her love of music. Mum was a very talented musician, playing guitar, piano, church organ and dulcimer. Mum taught so many children and adults pupils to play piano and guitar and continued to teach piano well into her retirement years.
In the 60's and 70's Mum ran the Compasses Folk Club in Tunbridge Wells for 10 years, promoted a number of famous folk singers and folk groups, such as Kenny Ball & His Jazz Men, The Spinners and Ralph McTell, composed a number of folk songs herself, wrote and published a tutorial book on playing folk guitar which sold over 21,000 copies, sang on TV and radio, and later became a hospital radio DJ. In her seventies, Mum also sang a small solo piece in Tyne & Wear Metro the Musical.
Mum continued to play piano, guitar and her keyboard well into her late seventies and early eighties as music was a big part of her life and brought her so much joy.
The Help Musicians charity greatly helped Mum during her retirement years and does outstanding work to assist emerging, professional and retired musicians throughout their careers.
