Celebrating 80 years in Arkansas! · 22 December 2020

For people who are blind, it is a challenge to find a safe place to walk and become more physically active. Celebrate 80 years of service to the community and help IFB bring a walking track to our Little Rock facility.

Story

Several years ago, I was involved in looking at options for
a walking track for blind employees at Arkansas Lighthouse for the Blind, now known as IFB Solutions. Due to several unexpected events, the idea was put on the back burner. I am delighted that the project has been revived and employee enthusiasm for the possibility of a
walking track is wonderful to see.

The initial phase of the project is estimated to be
$60,000.  We have the potential of getting a matching grant IF we can raise 40% of the costs no later than March 1, 2021. For people who are blind, it is a challenge to find a safe place to walk and become more physically active. Not all gyms are accessible. Braille isn't displayed consistently on gym equipment or recreationally facilities. The cost of a membership is high and transportation can be difficult to navigate. To help our teammates become more physically active, the IFB Solutions leadership team is planning for the best 80th birthday present possible. A walking track that is currently being planned will provide an easily accessible and safe place for employees who are blind to get out and get moving. Creating the walking track is a multistage project. It will include creation of a walking path, benches, sensory gardens, and a shaded picnic area for our employees to enjoy during their breaks or after their shifts. The track will be both white cane and guide dog friendly.

IFB Solutions (earlier known as Arkansas Lighthouse for the Blind) is celebrating its 80th anniversary of providing employment for persons
who are blind and visually impaired. Please join me in giving to IFB Solutions today.
