90th Anniversary of Passchendaele: Charity walk

Supported By; The Guild Of Battlefied Guides

[Member No 195]

I am a serving soldier and Intend to complete a charity walk in Belgium, for Combat stress over the periodof 24-25 August 2007 and to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the 3rd Battle of Ypres! commonly known as Passchendaele 1917.

The connection I have with this area is my great uncle, who was from Wales (Wrexham), served in the 1st World War, died of his wounds in the Ypres salient on the 26th May 1918.

He was in a British Regiment (The Machine Gun Corps) attached to a Scottish formation (9TH Scottish Division), "OH" my daughter Katie Aged 8 will be in my support crew and is from Northern Ireland, so as you can see I intend to represent all nationalities as part of my walk.

The route [20 miles] will be covered over 2 days dressed in authentic WW1 uniform being supplied/sponsored by Sabre Sales of Portsmouth. The start will be on the French/Belgium border, and the forecast of events is as follows;

Day 1  24th August 07

Start Chocolate shop (Abele/French/Belgium border)

 Poperinge
 Execution Post/ 2 Min Silence

 Vlamertinge
 (Tea Stop)

Finish  Ypres (Mennen Gate)

Day 2  25th August 07

Start Ypres (Mennen Gate)

 Zonnebeke Passchendaele Museum (Tea Stop)

 Finish Passchendaele via Crest Farm Since

World War 2 our armed forces are engaged more on active service than ever, our ex serviceman/woman need our help more now during their time of need
