Story
Every day millions of children are excluded from the fundamental human right of education due to entirely treatable health, nutrition and access problems.
The Partnership for Child Development works with governments in low income countries to develop and implement sustainable Inclusive School Health and Nutrition programmes. Simple interventions like school feeding, deworming, sight-correction etc which when effectively implemented can improve lives of not just school children but the wider communities that they live in.
PCD builds the evidence base around what works and what doesn't. We support government's to implement effective Inclusive School Health and Nutrition Programmes. In terms of development best buys the evidence is telling:
- It costs less that 50p to protect a child from parasitic worm infections.
- School Feeding Programmes can cost as little as $20 per child per year.
- Low cost spectacles are bringing the possibility of sight correction to the estimated 815 million school-aged children with poor vision.
Advances are being made but millions of children still remain unable to access the education they deserve, more needs to be done.
