Story
UPDATE - 9th August QEF offered me a place in the London Marathon! They confessed that they had already ordered my named vest weeks ago, that's how confident they were about my dedication. I am over the moon.
In October 2022 I will be running my first ever marathon for Queen Elizabeth's Foundation for Disabled People (QEF).
QEF are a Surrey based charity who support around 10,000 disabled people a year, now 10,001 - my Dad. In June my Dad suffered a stroke, he received care in East Surrey Hospital and was then moved to the QEF Rehabilitation Centre in Leatherhead. My Dad’s whole life has changed as he is not currently able to walk and he has difficultly moving his left arm. Day by day he is working with QEF and their amazing staff and he is getting there, he couldn’t have done it without them. They are providing him with neuro rehabilitation to rebuild his life. I cannot put into words how grateful I am for their services, let alone how much appreciation my Dad has for how much they’ve helped him in these early stages.
As it stands I am signed up for the virtual marathon. However, should I manage to raise anywhere near £2,000 by my 30th birthday (August) I will be able to enter the London Marathon and run the actual event, opposed to running around Reigate alone at 5am.
Any donation, big or small, or just jelly babies when I am running, would be greatly appreciated.
To date (29/6/22), the furthest I have ran is 22km and that was only because I got lost and had no choice but to keep running so that I got home. A marathon is 42.2km, knowing that I am running for such a fantastic cause will motivate me (and probably make me cry at the finish line).
