A note from Eric
This year my passion for long distance walking has drawn me towards entering the Isle of Man’s Parish Walk – an 85 mile trek around the roads of the island in 24 hours (or less).
The event can trace its roots as far back as 1850 although the first officially recorded walking event was held in 1913 when entrants walked around the 17 parishes which make up the island.
This year some 1,498 entrants are expected to participate with traditionally around 220 hardy souls managing to complete the whole course in 24 hours or less – hopefully I’ll be one of them!
As this is an officially organised event, held under strict IAAF Race Walking rules, I must have the assistance of a support car and driver, particularly during the overnight stages of the challenge. My colleague John Mason has given up his time to come and support me in this respect.
Hopefully, John and I will be able to raise some much needed funds for Maggie's North East so anything you might be able to contribute to their cause would be most appreciated.
Meanwhile, thanks in anticipation of any support you may be able to offer us ahead of the challenge which starts at 08:00 on June 21st 2014
