Story
I can’t walk due to recent emergency stomach surgery but I can still fundraise for my team—
We are the Parish Bounders, a small and informal walking group (ages 24–67) all living in the parish of Fylingdales, North Yorkshire. We have walking days of 15–23 miles over varying terrain and in all conditions. We live in a diverse area ranging from sea and beach to uplands and moorlands of which we intend to walk the boundaries on a nice day in May.
The idea of walking the bounds is based on the ancient custom of riding them on horseback to make them secure against neighbours. We had the idea of walking the bounds and then thought to do it for MAG. It is about 25 miles round the bounds so we will make up the difference to a marathon length 26 miles on 'foreign soil' in Staintondale parish. The walk (mapped by Mr John Gilbert) is long and in sections quite arduous covering mostly moorland some of which is pathless—the money we raise for Mines Advisory Group will have been properly earned (cheers John). It is fitting to do this walk for MAG as it will raise funds to help others walk in safety and without fear.
Please give as much as you feel able to, thank you.
