Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I was inspired to start playing basketball at the age of 7, and have had a great passion for sport ever since. This summer I will be travelling to Tanzania as part of a team of 5 students from the Manchester Universities' Catholic Chaplaincy to provide sporting opportunities for primary school children at St Ignatius' in Dodoma, Tanzania.
Our AIMs
I aim to set up an inter-school football league for boys and a netball league for girls. The sports drive will be complemented with an emphasis on education as we will also be in the classroom delivering lessons on IT, Science, and religious education. There will also be recording of the school choir which can be combined with footage from the football and netball initiative to create advertising and promotional material.
MY BACKGROUND (for those who don't know)
In more recent years I have spent 12+ months overseas volunteering in Uganda and Tanzania, with the Kampala Kids League (http://www.thekidsleague.org/), and at rural Tanzanian primary schools in Musoma with GoMAD (http://gomakeadifference.co.uk/).
Since then I have began a degree at the University of Manchester, and am pursuing my passion by coaching children at the Amaechi Basketball Centre. I have been blessed with the opportunity to be mentored by Sergio Lara-Bercial, a researcher into Sports Coaching and Leeds Beckett University and member of the International Council for Coaching Excellence. It is with this new knowledge of engaging children in sport through games related coaching techniques as well as my experience of organizing a 6 week football league in Uganda, as well as a Swahili vocabulary, that I plan to return to Tanzania to set up an inter-school sports program.
