Story
Hello!
I know you must be constantly bombarded with emails asking for sponsorship, so I hope you will excuse me for letting you know about a challenge that I am undertaking, for what I believe to be a very special cause.
On the 1st of August I will be running an Ultra Marathon in aid of the organization ‘For Rangers’ (https://www.forrangers.com). This Ultra Marathon will take place in Northern Kenya and will be a 5-day challenge, whereby we will be running through the bush for a total of 230 kilometers. We have to carry all our own equipment and food. Having only ever run a half marathon before, this represents a significant challenge for me!
The reason I am doing the For Rangers challenge is simple. I am fortunate enough to spend large amounts of time in some of the most pristine and beautiful places on the planet. My guests and I, finish our days exploring this wilderness and then head back to our luxurious and comfy camps/lodges to enjoy a shower, cold sundowner, delicious meal and comfortable bed. Very often we all forget about the Rangers who, with little thanks, spend all day and night out in the wilderness in order to protect the wildlife that we take for granted. These men and women, are not only in danger from the animals that they serve to protect, but also from the poachers who are often better equipped than the Rangers themselves. This extraordinary ‘silent’ war not only protects the last remaining wildlife on the planet, but also contributes very significantly to the general security in many areas, benefitting humans as well. It is not a front line that many people get to know about, let alone to see and rarely does it receive much press.
These rangers quietly put their lives on the line in order to save Africa’s wildlife. Since 2003 over 1,000 rangers have lost their lives
in the line of duty. It is one thing to put your life on the line for your
country, but it is another story when it comes to protecting a wildlife
heritage. The Rangers often have the most basic of equipment, healthcare, life insurance and support. For Rangers
is passionate about providing the support necessary to give these rangers the tools and support, both financial and in terms of equipment, to do their jobs.
Any donations or sponsorship would be extremely welcome. Remember
a pair of boots and a decent pair of socks alone, could change the life of a Ranger who has to walk miles and miles a day along rough and inhospitable terrain.
Thank you very much for reading this. Literally any contribution will make a difference. I really look forward to
enjoying our incredible wild spaces together with you very soon.
Regards,
Paolo
