Story
Hello. My name is Pamela Deacon. I suffer from dysautanomia, POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome), lupus, vasovagal syncope, fibromyalgia, depression, anxiety and PTSD, just to name a few of my diagnosed illnesses. Dysautanomia/POTS is an autoimmune condition that affects the flow of blood through the body, which causes dizziness when standing, heart rate increases, and light-headedness when standing, issues with exercise intolerance, fatigue and a multitude of other symptoms. Fibromyalgia is a disorder that causes widespread musculoskeletal pain accompanied by fatigue, sleep, memory and mood issues. So in short, I’m always tired, in pain and feel like I have the flu, and get dizzy at the worst of times. I also am deaf in my left ear. As I have gotten older, my condition has gotten worse to where I am no longer able to work. Just day to day activities have become a real struggle for me.
After much research, I discovered a company in the New Hampshire area (they also have facilities in Texas and California) who trains service dogs 🐕🦺 for people like me, to help with daily activities. Little Angels Service Dogs has approved me to receive one of these VERY special dogs. They are a charitable 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which means they rely 100% on donations from people like you. Their dogs are typically labradors who have been bred for this work. They are trained in foster homes from the moment they are weaned. The foster families do a fantastic job of getting these pups used to some very unusual circumstances at an early age. Once the dogs are mature enough, they are brought back to the dog training facility for specialized training to assist the individual with whom they will be placed.
In my case, my dog will be trained to perform a number of tasks that will help me. My dog will be trained for psychological tasks as well as mobility tasks, so it will be VERY specialized for my conditions. My dog will be able to alert when my blood pressure drops, I am dizzy, assist if I pass out, get my medication, or pick something up for me when I am in too much pain to do it myself. It will also be able to alert to anxiety or PTSD attacks. By sitting on my lap and being at my side, the dog will provide deep pressure (like a firm hug) which is a proven therapy. The dog will also provide me with unconditional love 💕 when I just need a friend and comfort
It would be a wonderful gift for me and other adults and children like me to receive the benefits of a service dog 🐕🦺. Every dog Little Angels provides is paid for by donations. There are a lot of expenses associated with training a dog so skilled, so I am working as a volunteer to help raise some of these funds
