Story
EDSA is proud to honour the involvement of Pamela Bankart MBE in this small Oxfordshire based charity. Pam was a founder member and helped to constitute EDSA as a Charitable Trust in June 1991. She passionately believed that education was the key to the future of SA and in these apartheid days she was actively supporting a variety of educational projects in the townships. Pam continued to be a committed member of EDSA and hosted away days at her home in Kensington as well as joining us in our regular Trustee meetings. She was always keen to ensure that we were working as efficiently as possible. She asked the right questions and understood the difficulties which were often experienced by projects when funding streams dried up. Indeed one year Pam saved the "Winter School" from closing by herself funding the 200 young people to attend their only opportunity to use proper laboratories before their matriculation.
Pam will be sincerely missed by the EDSA team, especially her fellow Trustees. EDSA's work will be continued and we will remember her enthusiasm, drive and energy and strive to emulate her example. Her interest in the children and young people in South African townships never ceased and we will ensure that projects develop as she would have wished.
If you wish to make a donation to EDSA in memory of Pamela Bankart MBE then donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to donate: Education For Democracy In South Africa will receive your money electronically and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in Gift Aid will be added to your donation at no cost to you.
Pamela would want me to thank you for your generosity.
