Story

Thanks for visiting our Big Walk 2017 Just Giving page. More
information about The Big Walk 2017 can be found at www.shef.ac.uk/big-walk

We are taking part in The Big Walk 2017, a walking challenge
on 30 June-1 July – a 50-mile circular walk starting and ending at the
University and going out into the Peak District. We’ll have up to 24 hours to complete as much of the route as we can and we are determined to make it at least to the half way point.

Pam is the Director of the Sheffield Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) for Translational Neuroscience, Paul is Head of the Department of Neuroscience.  This is all our fault. The application that we wrote to fund the BRC promised to deliver an MRI-PET scanner to Sheffield.  The scanner will have a huge impact on health care and on our ability to bring important new developments in the understanding and treatment of devastating conditions like MND and Dementia, but also many other diseases affecting other parts of the body like cancer and lung diseases. Please help us keep Sheffield at the forefront of care and research to deliver the best possible healthcare to South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire.

Why are we doing this?

We are raising funds towards the University’s £2 million
fundraising campaign for the Sheffield Scanner - a ground-breaking MRI-PET scanner facility, and the first of its kind in Yorkshire. The Sheffield Scanner will represent the next leap forward in medical and imaging research and have a crucial role for research and patients in many areas of medicine, including cancer, neurodegenerative diseases such as Motor Neurone Disease, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s, heart disease, diabetes and stroke.

Further information about the Sheffield Scanner can be found at:

www.sheffield.ac.uk/sheffieldscanner

So please donate to this fantastic cause which will have a
terrific impact for everyone in Sheffield, South Yorkshire and beyond.
