Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On August 4th 2019, one of my closest and dearest friends passed away after suffering for over 3 ½ yrs with MND - Motor Neurone Disease. A cruel and terminal illness, which he stubbornly battled against with great courage and humour, until it eventually took his life.
Despite this illness, he still remained extremely passionate about his work, which he would later call ‘his medicine’, making daily trips up to his studios and workshops, to see his beloved waggons and directing their restoration work from his wheelchair, via his eyegaze system. His determination and ‘can do’ attitude was a constant inspiration to many around him, myself included, and his loss is greatly felt every day
The waggon you see in the main photo is believed to have been built in 1870 by Fuller of St Ives in Cambridgeshire and is arguably the oldest original Romany kite waggon in the UK in existence today, becoming 150yrs old, in 2020.
It was the last waggon I purchased while my friend was still with us and I have decided to take some time out to restore this in his memory and also for charity, hoping to raise awareness and much needed funds for the MND association.
So, all that’s left to say is:
This one’s for you Steve, 'jasa o buddhaengero me tatcho mal ta atch konyo'.
You can also follow the restoration on, Twitter, Youtube and the main 'Paint your Waggon' website: www.paintyourwaggon.co.uk
Please give if you can and once again thank you for visiting my page. Any support or donations you can make will be greatly appreciated by the MND Association. I hope you enjoy following the Fuller restoration.
