Story
I can’t imagine running the 2020 TCS New York City Marathon for Women's Prison Association without the (virtual) support of my friends and family, hours of Beyonce playlists to train with, and all the witty signs keeping me moving toward that finish line!
🏅 I’m so excited to continue my training towards this goal of completing my first marathon while raising awareness and support for an incredible organization.
🏃♀️ I’m running for WPA because while it costs $120k a year to send a woman to jail and support foster care expenses for her children, it only costs $20k to assist her in rehabilitation. 🏃♀️
👯♀️ I support WPA because women’s rights are human rights.

In 1845, WPA became the nation’s first organization dedicated solely to working with criminal justice-involved women and their families.
Since then, the state of incarceration has changed significantly:
85% of women sent to New York prisons are there for non-violent offenses.
📈 The number of women in prison or jail in the US has increased by 832% over the last three decades, twice the rate of increase of men.
Women are more likely than men to enter jail with a history of abuse or trauma, with an addiction, and/or with mental health diagnoses. They are also more likely to have experienced poverty.
👩👧👦2.3 million mothers will be separated from their children this year due to incarceration.

🎉 I’m asking you, my friends and family, to please support me in this journey toward running my first marathon, and support justice-involved women via the Women’s Prison Association.
💕 Your donations help support safe and affordable housing, preparation for job interviews, ability to reunite with their children, and access to addiction and mental health services.
🍾So, please help me celebrate WPA turning 175 this year (!!!!) and ring in the 50th anniversary of the NYC marathon with over 50,000 other runners!
