Story
I'm off on another 'Trek to Fight Blindness' with a bunch of blind and partially sighted friends and supporters of the charity 'RP Fighting Blindness'.
I'm swapping the heat of the desert (March 2009) for the unpredictability of Icelandic weather. I'll be trekking across ever changing landscapes and through ever changing weather for approximately 75km in July 2011 in aid of the charity 'RP Fighting Blindness' who are funding research and campaigning to eradicate one of the major causes of hereditary blindness.
I have RP and am registered as partially sighted. I'm gradually losing my sight starting with the periphery (ie all the vision apart from the centre of what you are focussed on). Eventually it will encroach on my central vision. RP stands for Retinitis Pigmentosa and it is thought to affect roughly 1 family in 3000 in the UK. It is hereditary and so can get passed down from generation to generation.
I have no idea whether my 2 daughters (3 yrs and nearly 1 yr) have inherited my bad genes, but I sincerely hope that with your help and that of the charity's supporters, we can find a cure before it turns any more lives upside down.
I am paying for all my costs for this trek, so you can be assured that every penny you donate will go to the charity for research.
