To celebrate our silver wedding, we have decided to do a sponsored walk during August, to raise money for The British Heart Foundation. The walk we have chosen is The Calderdale Way in the South Pennines. It is 50 miles long - that is 1 mile each for every year of our marriage!
We are sure you will agree this is a very worthwhile cause. Thank you in anticipation of your generosity.

Day 1
We had a great day! Finished up around Todmorden - I estimate we have done about 17 miles. It was actually quite hard going - up and down all day - and very steep! Our knees have already suffered! But - we will be back!
Day 2
Another good day.Lots of varied scenery! Very bleak, misty and wet up on the moors this morning - much better later.
Started off relatively late as took long time to get there. Also got lost (more than once) - so cost us about an hour. Have also come to the conclusion that distances in book we are following are wrong! Still had a good walk. Finished today near Luddendon, then had to walk about 3 miles to find a bus back to the car! Anyway, we are enjoying the challenge, and are still speaking! Will be back tomorrow!
Day 3
A great day! Not a good start when we realised it was throwing it down! However - we made a few changes to the kit and set off. Started walking just after 9.
After a few minutes , the rain stopped - and it didn't rain for the rest of the day! We had gone prepared though - with our waterproof trousers on - it was just as well really, as all the vegetation was soaking! We knew we still had quite a lot of ground to cover - around 20 miles! It didn't help that I had a dodgy knee and a painful ankle. At that point I don't think either of us really thought we would make it that day, but we wanted to try! I felt really determined - and a few prayers were said along the way! Anyway - we kept going. (By the way - Dave had told me that he'd forgotten the camera - but then it turned up. I think it was all a ploy not to have any photos of his blue waterproof trousers!)
The last 15 miles or so went relatively smoothly (in terms of getting lost, detours and quantity of bulls.) Around 4.30 we arrived in Brighouse, and knew the end was in sight, and only about 5 miles away!
Finally, at about 7.30, we arrived back at the starting point.
We were so pleased to finish, and really enjoyed the walk. The scenery has been amazing. Over the three days we have met some lovely, kind people who have all encouraged or helped us on the way.
Thank you all for your encouragement and sponsorship!
