In The Line Of Duty
A Mother and her Midnight Walkers
Thank you for taking the time to visit our Just Giving Page.
Eight years ago on 23rd August 2007, My world changed forever. My Son John was Killed in Afghanistan . He died alongside his friends Robert Foster and Aaron McClure They all served in the 1st Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment . True Vikings.
Little did I realise, then, that my life would never be the same again!
I want to write about my feelings and my experience of being a mother who lost her son, but, to be honest, there will never be the right words to express how I am feeling in my heart and what the experience has done to me emotionally and physically. I can just say, I get up each day and breathe, and feel lucky to do so. (Many do not have this privilege). Those who know me or know of others that have experienced this pain will understand.
During these past years , I have met some amazing and inspirational people who have also suffered through the loss of their loved ones and because of those who are seriously injured . We are all suffering the same never-ending pain.
Because of this, I decided recently, to set myself a challenge to climb Ben Nevis, at night, on the 22nd August 2015, along with others who were readily willing to support this worthy cause.
I want to do this to raise funds in support of a marvellous charity “ The Not Forgotten Association” which was founded in 1920. with the aim of supporting injured service men and women.
Our venture will be lead by Stu Parker (Parky), who was the NCO in charge of the platoon, in which my son and his comrades were killed and injured - under “American Friendly Fire”.
Parky miraculously recovered, sufficiently, from serious injury and is able to lead our trek.
Other members of this adventure will include supporters, family and friends. Some will remain @ base camp, while others doing the walk will include the following; Luke Thrumble, Ben Roberts, Clinton Odell (OD), Richard Barke, Josh Lee, Aaron Cooledge, Albert, Kizzy Quick, Courtney Matthew, Tracie Long and Tanya Lee, Simon Martin.
Others wishing to join us on behalf of this great cause may contact me by email on : pearlvikingmum@gmail.com
“The Not Forgotten Association is a unique national tri-charity which provides entertainment, leisure and recreation for the serving wounded, injured or sick and ex service men and women with disabilities”
Thank you, so much, to everyone for your Support, Encouragement and Sponsorship.
The response to our appeal has been overwhelming and we have already reached our original target of £500.
We are now being encouraged to raise our donations target.
It has been suggested that we aim to raise, the equivalent of £1.00 for every metre from the base (foot) to the top of Ben Nevis!
This distance is 1344 metres
We are up for this challenge!!
Wouldn’t it be nice to raise £1344 on behalf of The Not Forgotten Association.
