Story
I am doing two big cycling events all in aid of the UK Sepsis Trust.
The first is Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 on the 02/08/2015, this is a 100 mile ride with a spectacular finish on The Mall.
The second is a cycle of about 200 miles from Sutton Coldfield on 06/09/2015 to meet up with other cyclists from around the UK at the Houses of Parliament on 08/09/2015.
The UK Sepsis Trust in raising awareness about the 37,000 people who die in the UK every year from sepsis and septic shock.
The UK Sepsis Trust
Sepsis, or blood poisoning, is a potentially fatal disease that can be triggered by something as simple as a cut, insect bite, or infection. Every year in the UK there an estimated102,000 cases, resulting in around 37,000 deaths – more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer combined.
But there is a solution to the problem: sepsis is an entirely treatable disease. Early detection and treatment greatly increases the chance of survival and reduces the potentially devastating long-term effects – many of the people who survive sepsis suffer avoidable long-term physical and psychological needs. Despite this, awareness of sepsis amongst health professionals and the public remains alarmingly low.
The UK Sepsis Trust (UKST) was established as a charity in 2012 with the objective of saving 12,500 lives every year and improving outcomes for survivors of sepsis. Led by world expert in sepsis Dr. Ron Daniels, UKST delivers education programmes, develops clinical pathways, influences policy makers, and supports those affected in order to improve the way in which the disease is handled.
The money raised helps to raise awareness, support survivors and the bereaved.
