Story
On April 19th 2020, I will be attempting to run 26.2 miles (That's a marathon!) This is going to be a whole new ball game for me, training has commenced (It's going to be tough!) and in doing this I am hoping to raise a little bit of money for Alzheimer's Society.
I will be running every step for my beautiful Wee Granny...aka, the toughest wee cookie on the block.
Every 3 minutes, someone develops dementia. Currently there is no cure. We know we can beat it, but we cant do it alone. Every donation is an essential part of the bigger picture we are working towards a world without dementia.
A few ways in which money raised helps towards research and people living with Dementia:
£5 - Pays for 200 Dementia Help cards. - These can be used to get help and
assistance and who to contact if needed, helping keeping people with
dementia safe whilst out in the community.
£75 - Can pay for 20 microtome blades/ goes towards brain research.
£100 - Our Drug Discovery Programme could deliver new treatments for
dementia faster and cheaper by repurposing drugs already in use for
other health conditions. £100 covers. Alzheimer’s Society’s cost
of supporting one patient with early stage Alzheimer’s for three
months on one of our vital trials. Their time and dedication provides
us with the potential to treat symptoms and slow the progression of
dementia.
£1000 - Direct advice from an expert adviser (17people helped)The Dementia Adviser service is available to people who have received a diagnosis of dementia, or are in the process of receiving a diagnosis. They provide support to understand key information around a diagnosis of dementia and what this may mean for them and their family. £1,000 brings this crucial support to 17
people in a year.
Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever. Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
