Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
10 years ago, my son Toby (TJ) passed away, having spent a number of weeks being cared for by the incredible staff of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of the Royal United Hospital in Bath. This year, on his 10 year anniversary, we want to do something special to both thank the people who cared for him and to support a very special cause.
At the Royal United Hospital, 1 in 10 babies are born too small, too sick or too soon and therefore need additional care. The Dyson Centre for Neonatal Care (NICU) provides this to around 300 babies every year. These babies, who can weigh less than a bag of sugar and fit in the palm of your hand, need everything that modern technology can offer.
This very Centre was 50% funded by The Forever Friends Appeal, from charitable support as part of the NICU ‘space to grow’ Campaign and provides these premature babies with the best possible start in life!
Charitable donations continue provide state-of-the-art treatment and diagnostic equipment that helps staff deliver the best possible care to these fragile young lives. Examples of the types of equipment that are required by NICU are:
- Incubators - a special cot that keeps babies warm and can control the moisture level (humidity).
- Monitors - machines that might be used to keep track of a baby’s heart beat, breathing rate, blood pressure and temperature.
- Bili blankets - a portable phototherapy device for the treatment of neonatal jaundice.
Thank you for your generosity and for supporting me on this journey.
