Story
In 2017 iconic Mother-Son duo Harry and Jenny Baker travelled to Bethlehem to take part in the Right to Movement Marathon to raise money for the Amos trust. It was due to be Jenny's first full marathon since recovering from chemo and if we're brutally honest Harry hadn't done enough training, but at least compared to when he ran the London Marathon two years previous he didn't have a massive homemade replica separation wall on his back acting as a makeshift sail.
Unfortunately the night before the race Jenny got food poisoning from a well-intentioned pasta party and still somehow managed to finish a half marathon before calling it a day. Harry meanwhile managed to finish the whole thing despite them having removed the road signage and allowed donkeys back on the streets by the time he did. This time they are back on home turf to walk that same marathon distance on the only part of the route possible in these unusual times, that of Canterbury to Dover, as part of Amos' larger Just Walk Again 2020 campaign (see below), to finally share a euphoric finish-line crossing moment denied to them by the Gods of poorly-cooked-carbohydrate all those months ago.
Amos are an amazing charity and this is a cause close to both of our hearts, ever since we first went out to visit the west bank in 2012.
We are fundraising for Just Walk Again 2020. We will be walking 26.2 miles because we believe it is time to Step Out, Step Up and Stop Annexation. The Israeli government is starting its plan to annex up to 1/3 of the Occupied Palestinian Territories of the West Bank. This is without the agreement of the Palestinian people who will once again lose their land, their rights and their freedom of movement. Annexation is illegal under international law and will lead to a permanent apartheid regime.Governments around the world, including the UK, have already voiced their opposition. But Israel looks set to go ahead despite its claims to uphold democracy and the rule of law. So We are joining Amos Trust in walking again to draw attention to yet another injustice against the Palestinian people. Together we're going to walk 3,000 miles in our local areas and between us we will cover the distance from London to Jerusalem.
