We provide food, healthcare & education to help the Dolma Lhakang community

Story

This is why I’m fundraising:

I’m fundraising for the monks and nuns at Dolma Lhakang Monastery in Tibet because they have dedicated their lives to intensive study and practice and they need our help.

At 15,000 feet above sea level there is very little nearby. The winters can last 8 months, temperatures drop to minus 35 degrees and the dry, barren earth is frozen solid for most of the year. Living conditions are basic and austere - Tsampa (barley flour) for breakfast, plain rice and vegetables for dinner.  Nothing can grow at this height, so every single necessity of life must be brought in from the lower regions.

The monks and nuns need our help in order to survive.

And I need help to lose weight.

For the last 9 years I have been living as a Buddhist nun at Samye Ling Monastery in Scotland.

The Buddhist teachings encourage us to live simply and not seek comfort in external things like food, but we have some excellent cooks here and I suffer from a severe lack of willpower.  So, what better incentive to shed the pounds, than by raising the £s for such a good cause?

The plan is for me to lose THREE STONE between 23rd August and 31st December 2016 and for your sponsorship to be used to help keep the monks and nuns (several hundred of them) warm, healthy and properly fed.  Just £2.50 a day goes a long way to supporting a sangha member over there.

Others will be joining me on this challenge with their own
weight loss goals and with your help Our Loss will the Their Grain!
