Story
Hi Everyone,
My name is Oskar. I am 5 years old. During the school summer holiday’s me and my sister Karis found a baby hedgehog (Hoglet) in our garden. It was very poorly and needed help. We quickly got our mummy and daddy and got a box to gently put the hedgehog in. It was so tiny! We helped to get a saucer of water and brought the hedgehog indoors away from the direct sunlight as it was very hot that day. Daddy called the Suffolk Hedgehog Hospital and spoke to a lovely lady called Sue. She advised us that the Hoglet would need to be taken to her straight away as it was too young to be on its own and had been separated from its mother. We were advised to look for the mother and so me and Karis went on a hunt in the garden to see if we could see the Hedgehogs family but sadly they were no where to be seen. We took the hedgehog to the Suffolk Hedgehog Hospital where Sue greeted us. She told us that our Hedgehog was a girl so me and Karis named her Holly. Holly weighed 36 grams and needed to be syringed fed during the day and night. Her eyes had sunken in which was a sign of her being dehydrated. Sue has managed to look after Holly around the clock along with other hedgehogs and brought her back to good health. She is doing so well, she is eating solid foods and is now integrated with other hedgehogs. When she is big enough she will be released back in to the wild and Sue has said I can pick Holly up and release her in my garden which backs on to fields. I am very excited about this as I am planning on making a hedgehog house with my grandad.
Oskar wanted to do something to raise money for the charity as they do a wonderful job in rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing the hedgehogs back into the wild as soon as they are fit and healthy. He has decided to run around Needham Lakes dressed as Sonic the Hedgehog! He is looking for Sponsorship and would love for people to come and join in if they want to run with him. There will also be collection buckets on the day for any spectators with loose change!
Oskar absolutely loves wildlife, nature and the great outdoors. He cares so deeply and is so excited about doing this Sonic run to raise money we are all so very proud of him. X
