Story
Every year, around 100 people need to have their hip implant replaced in either Cheltenham General or Glos Royal hospitals. Known as "hip revision" this surgery requires the bone cement, used to keep their old implant in place, to be removed. Not too many years ago this was done with a hammer and chisel. Now, thanks to GAT funding several OSCAR devices, the surgeons can turn bone cement into putty on contact and cement removal takes under 25 mins. But each device costs over £30,800. We are fundraising to replace an 11 year-old OSCAR we bought that has come to the end of its useful life. GAT has promised the first 25% from our own funds and we are looking to get support from the many people who have been helped, or are soon to be helped, to begin to get their lives back on track. Residents of Bourton-on-the-Water recently donated £848.80p. The Bone Rangers also raised over £180 from the 26 mile Great Glencoe Challenge. Renishaw's Charities Committee have donated £2,000. During the useful life of this new device over 1,000 people could be treated.
