Story
So this summer i'll be walking 26 miles around The Lake District to raise money for Alzheimer's Society. As some of you may know my Nan began a fairly rapid decline into dementia around 10 years ago now, and has been in Cedar Court care home since. As the years have elapsed my family and I have watched her become less and less of herself and whilst ive lost other grandparents in the time since she first became ill its undoubtedly been harder to come to terms with her being here, and also very much not here. being only 13 when this all started i was naive to how drastically and quickly these things can take effect and even now 10 years later its surprsing how little we know about how best to care for a debilitating disease such as this, as well as how it works and what can cause it. For me being a spectator to my nans decline and barely being able to comprehend it, let alone do something about it, was one of the hardest pills to swallow. I like to think that by doing this i can help give back to the nurses and care staff who werent spectators, to help aid researchers to improve care for other sufferers and to generally give people access to information on an unquestionably confusing and frightening illness. Any donation big or small would be massively appreciated and helps to make this as worthwhile as possible, Thanks for any support you can give.
