Story

 In memory of Oscar Pisano,  21st October 2004 - 16th March 2014

Oscar Pisano was diagnosed in June 2012 with Juvenile Myelomocytic Leukaemia.  From June to September 2012 Oscar received regular chemotherapy for symptom control but his condition could not be cured without a bone marrow transplant.  In September a good match was found in Germany but unfortunately the transplant could not go ahead as upon further testing it was found that Oscar had a very poor lung function.  His consultant at Great Ormond Street Hospital said they had only ever treated someone for 6 months without a Bone Marrow Transplant.  Oscar's chemotherapy was administered monthly for a week at a time up at Great Ormond Street.  Oscar defied everyone and fought on for 18 months and during that time he did some amazing things, met some amazing people and is now known by Doctors all over the world.  Oscar also remained blood and platelet transfusion dependent and full supportive care until the 16th March 2014....This was the day that Oscar won his battle and changed the lives of those he touched forever – he passed away peacefully in the arms of his very loving Mum and Dad.  Oscar was 9 years old. That day a new star entered the night sky, a new angel started to watch over us.

Oscar was both a massive music and Chelsea fan and touched the hearts of some of his heroes during his life. Oscar met his favourite bands JLS and The Saturdays at a Downing Street party; he walked Roger Federer out at the O2 in front of 15,000 people and was always welcomed by players and staff at Chelsea Football Club  where he made friends with The Special One and his hero John Terry. One of his proudest moments was when he walked out on the pitch at Stamford Bridge holding JT’s hand as the Chelsea mascot for a game against Manchester United in January 2014...Chelsea won J.

A tribute fund has been set up in Oscar’s memory in support of Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research who are a UK blood cancer charity. Leukaemia is the most common form of cancer in children. Around 450 children are diagnosed with leukaemia in the UK every year. Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research is currently investing more than £17 million into research across the UK to beat childhood leukaemia. This includes building on the understanding of why some children develop leukaemia, finding new and less gruelling treatments and funding the latest clinical trial to treat all children in the UK.  They truly believe in improving the lives of patients with blood cancers such as leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma because they (like you and me) believe every child should be able to live their life to the full.

Be part of Oscar’s story and help change the lives of many children by giving generously.
