Story
Emerging Influencers is a six week leadership programme for 17-23 year olds. This community of young adults is raising money for Tearfund's life saving work in helping people to continue to lift themselves out of poverty.
Orbisa and her family live in the village of Asbehari in the Afar region of north-east Ethiopia. Climate change has contributed to a massive decrease in rainfall in recent years, and local sources of water have dried up. Now, Orbisa has no choice but to walk up to ten hours each day to collect water for her family – but it’s still not enough. They often have to get by with less than half the water they need just to meet their basic needs, and it means Orbisa’s children often go to bed thirsty.
However, Tearfund is working with local partners to install solar powered wells to increase peoples access to clean water and help them adapt to the tough conditions they have been forced in. Just £12 could provide a family like Orbisa's with access to life saving water.
We are doing 24 Litter picks in March to raise money for Tearfund's life saving work in helping people like Orbisa, affected by climate change, economic disruption and displacement, to continue to lift themselves out of poverty.
